Chapter Meeting: The Problem of Evil
Lake Nokomis Community Center
2401 E. Minnehaha Parkway
Minneapolis, MN 55417
The October chapter meeting will be the first in a series discussions on the problem of evil.
We will watch a DVD lecture by professor James Hall, Thomas Professor and Chair, Department of Philosophy, University of Richmond, on: "Justifying Human Evil"
This lecture deals with theodicy (the attempt to justify evil in relation to God). This will then be a basis for small group discussions of evil from a Humanist or Freethought perspective. How do we determine what is evil? What language do we use? How do we deal with attempts to justify evil? What is our alternative to the conventional religious approach to evil?
The discussion will be led by Paul Heffron, philosopher and one of the founders of Humanists of Minnesota.
